The tool has a working station to position a cut wire section in bores in a band passed through the tool by an advance unit. It has a second advance unit for the wire, which is controlled by the lifting movement of an automatic punching tool, and moves the wire at right angles to the working level. In a first step, the wire is inserted into the bore and it is cut in a second step. A riveting station is positioned after the working station. The second advance unit consists of a fixed clamp rail (48) and a moveable rail (46), formed by clamp jaws (48a,46a). The wire is cut by a slider.
