A method of measuring heat flux in a heated chamber comprising conveying through at least a portion of the chamber a heat flux measuring device comprising at least one sensor. The heat flux measuring device produces an output from which can be derived a value that is representative of heat flux incident upon an exposed surface of the sensor. The method further comprises monitoring the said output, the said exposed surface being preheated, prior to monitoring the said output, to a temperature exceeding the dew point of gas within the heated chamber, the preheating being effected by thermal conduction. <IMAGE>
