Control of an electrical machine in a serial hybrid vehicle

The hybrid vehicle has an electric machine (13) coupled to a shaft (14) driven by an engine (11) connected to the vehicle wheels (20). The electric machine can supplement drive or driven to charge a battery (22). The power demand to charge the battery is controlled under an adaptive law as a function of battery charge, using a gain which varies with operating conditions of the vehicle.
