During an electrochemical machining process (ECMP), a work-piece (WP) (2) as an anode and an opposing electrode (OE) (3) immerse in an electrolyte (4) impinged by a source (5) of voltage generating a pulsed current to flow for testing between the WP, the electrolyte and the OE before, during or after the ECMP. An electrical test device (6) measures resulting voltage between the WP and the OE. An independent claim is also included for a device for defining an electrochemically active surface on an electrically conductive work-piece connected as an electrode.
