PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processor capable of reducing the total number of pins and making a chip area smaller. SOLUTION: A first external memory 20 is connected via serial wiring 22 to a serial/parallel converter 19 and is connected to the data processor, such as a CD-ROM encoder/decoder 11. The first external memory 20 previously stores the control program data used in a control microcomputer 18 and transfers the data in batch to a second external memory 16 in activating the CD-ROM encoder/decoder 11. After the operation of the CD-ROM encoder/decoder 11 is started, the control program data are properly read from the second external memory 16 to the control microcomputer 18.
