PURPOSE: A recording medium with a coating layer on a surface of a substrate is provided to have a high surface strength of a coating layer, not to generate an ink bleed in printing and to have a good waterproof strength after printing. CONSTITUTION: The recording medium comprises a coating layer of a polyvinylalcohol based resin containing acetoacetic ester group, a zirconium compound and an inorganic powders on the surface of the substrate. The zirconium compound is a zirconium nitrate based compound. The zirconium compound is a zirconyl hydroxychloride. A polymerization degree of the polyvinylalcohol based resin containing acetoacetic ester group is at least 300. The polyvinylalcohol based resin containing acetoacetic ester group is a reactant of polyvinylalcohol based resin and diketene.
