PURPOSE: A method of compensating for a scanning disturbance on an optical recording medium and a device are provided to use a simple unit for increasing scannability of a playback or recording unit or reducing data loss even though a defect is generated from an optical recording medium, thereby compensating for a scanning disturbance on the medium. CONSTITUTION: A follow-up signal(A2) for counteracting a settling amplitude(ESA1) is coupled with a control loop as an additional offset to compensate for a scanning disturbance. If a new settling amplitude(ESA1) is generated in the same direction after about one rotation of an optical recording medium, the follow-up signal(A2) is increased as much as at least one-stage width(X). If a change occurs in the direction of the settling amplitude(ESA1), the follow-up signal(A2) is reduced.
