The thread guide (1) is constructed as a small rotary tube (11) with a carrier (13) for the thread running through. The carrier is a spiral (13). Its angle exceeds 360[deg], preferably being about 540[deg]. The carrier has an edge lying in a plane at right angles to the axis of rotation of the spiral. The edge (14, 15) is a curved bridge section. Upper and lower ends of the spiral are each constructed as an edge. The thread guide has a casing (2) in which the rotary tube rotates. Its thread inlet opening (21) is eccentric to the axis of tube rotation. The small rotary tube has an eccentric thread outlet bore (23). The eccentricity (e) corresponds approximately with the diameter of the carrier core. The thread guide has a push-on casing (34) at a spacing (h) from the upper end of the ring spindle (3). The ring spindle projects out at least 50 mm from the upper end of the casing. The thread guide is swung from its operational position into a servicing position, where it can be coupled with a suction unit (5), which it operates through this movement. A carrier having wear resistant surface is also claimed. Its coefficient of friction is a function of the grain size of material forming its surface.
