PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for growing a variety of an ornamental cabbage having a novel character not existing in conventional ornamental cabbage varieties, without secreting or attaching a wax component substantially on the surface of its leaves and having a gloss on the surface of the leaves. SOLUTION: The method for growing the novel ornamental cabbage is provided by cross-fertilizing Brassica oleracea family without secreting or attaching the wax component on the surface of the leaves substantially with the ornamental cabbage family, selecting an individual body or a family without secreting the wax component on the surface of the leaves substantially from the cross-fertilized generation. The period of the selection is preferably within a period of extending its cotyledon to extending 10 major leaves, and it is preferable to let seedlings meet continuously or intermittently with a cold temperature of 0-15°C for 1 to 20 days within the extending period of cotyledon to extending period of 10 major leaves.
