The vehicle roof has an openable roof part (1) movable from fully closed to fully open, and a side guide in which a cover part can move to provide a third position, in which the roof part is held in a rising position against the direction of travel. The roof part in its second fully open position is held in a position parallel to the rest of the roof and at a spacing from it. A raising device enables the front edge region of the roof part to be raised.
