PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a higher-quality product by surely preventing the intrusion of a contaminant into a centrifugally-separated cake and a separated liquid and the deterioration of the centrifugally-separated cake and the separated liquid to keep the purity of the centrifugally-separated cake. SOLUTION: The subject centrifugal separator is provided with a rotatable basket 5 to be housed in a vessel 3, a slurry supply means 11 for supplying slurry S to the basket 5 and an inert gas supply means 18 for supplying an inert gas G to the vessel 3. Centrifugal separation is performed by the use of the centrifugal separator while keeping the pressure in the vessel 3 higher than that outside the vessel 3 by supplying the gas G to the vessel 3.
