PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing an ethylene-α-olefin random copolymer with a narrow molecular weight distribution without taking much time for preparing a catalyst and without being restricted by the order of catalyst addition, by using an easily available, lowly toxic, and easily handleable polysiloxane as a cocatalyst in copolymerizing ethylene and anα-olefin or ethylene, anα-olefin, and a nonconjugated diene in the presence of a transition metal catalyst. SOLUTION: This process for producing the copolymer comprises polymerizing (i) ethylene and (ii) a 3-20Cα-olefin or (i) ethylene, (ii) a 3-20Cα-olefin, and (iii) a polyene in the presence of a transition metal complex, an organoaluminum compound, and a polysiloxane.
