PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for defect signal detection capable of precisely detecting a defect signal according to an input reproduction signal. SOLUTION: The defect signal detector comprises a maximum detection part for detecting the maximum of a maximum peak signal among signals input during a maximum detection period based on a reference maximum, a minimum detection part for detecting the minimum of a minimum peak signal among signals input during a minimum detection period based on a reference minimum, a non object detection part for calculating a non object amount (δ) by detecting the maximum (I<SB>L</SB><SP>max</SP>) and the minimum (I<SB>L</SB><SP>min</SP>) of a signal (I<SB>L</SB>) with a maximum period of the periods of input signals and the maximum (I<SB>S</SB><SP>max</SP>) and the minimum (I<SB>S</SB><SP>min</SP>) of a signal (I<SB>S</SB>) with a minimum period of the periods of the input signals, and a defect discrimination part for discriminating the presence/absence of the defect of the input signals by using the maximum, the minimum and the non object amount (δ).
