PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio communication system and an authentication method used for connection to an Internet service provider at a so-called hot spot such as a public radio spot. SOLUTION: In the communication system comprising: a radio communication apparatus 100; a base station apparatus 30; a network 40; an authentication apparatus; a storage device 400, and a registration apparatus 20, wherein the radio communication apparatus includes a storage section for storing authentication information used at connection to the network, the registration apparatus registers identification information of the radio communication apparatus and period information denoting a connection enabled period to the network to the storage device as authentication information, and the authentication apparatus includes an authentication means for authenticating the radio communication apparatus on the basis of a result of comparison between a point of time when the radio communication apparatus makes an authentication request and the period information.
