The invention relates to a method for detecting undesired operating states of a driving device. A sensor (50) that is coupled in a transforming manner between a stator end and a rotor end is triggered by a control circuit (40) detecting a position-related value or a rotational speed value of the drive mechanism. An error signal (F) is issued if an unwanted operating state occurs. A test signal (e) that is also fed to the control circuit (40) is supplied to a safety monitoring device (30) in order to determine and issue said error signal. The test signal (e) has a detuning effect on the control circuit and is tested in the monitoring device (30) regarding the presence thereof.
