PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device which enables a user to take pictures of high S/N without caring about camera shake or the like even in the case of a subject being under low illuminance. SOLUTION: An image of each field is monitored by monitoring (S1). An AE evaluation value is calculated from the result (S2), and exposure is performed and respective field data are read out (S5) to perform normal still image processing (S9) in the case that the calculation result doesn't show low luminance (NO in S3). When the calculation result shows low luminance (YES in S3), respective field data are read out after exposure (S4), and first and second field data are compared (S6), and it is discriminated whether the subject is moving or not by the comparison result (S7), and normal still image processing is performed (S9) in the case that the subject is moving (YES in S7).
