The calk (8) comprises a first part with a coaxial liner and head for inserting into a threaded hole in the horseshoe, and a second part in the form of a pin for inserting into a hole in the first part so that the liner expands and engages with the threading in the hole in the horseshoe. A calk for removably securing inside a threaded hole in a horseshoe has a mushroom shape with a stem and a head, the stem being designed to cooperate with the screw threading, whilst the head remains on the outside of the horseshoe after the calk has been fitted and presses against the horseshoe tread surface. The calk comprises two cooperating parts, the first part comprising a liner located in the stem region and connected to the head, the liner and head being arranged coaxial relative to each other, and the second part comprises a pin for inserting into a coaxial hole in the first part. The second part is less easily deformable than the first part, at least in the liner region. The first part fits inside the threaded hole. In order to secure the calk to the horseshoe, the pin has to be slid into its hole so that the liner expands and engages with the threading in the hole. An independent claim is also included for a horseshoe for use in combination with the calk.
