The process involves laying a cable (CAB) on the ground along a predefined path, and covering the cable by pouring an asphalt-based layer (ENR) over the cable. The cable is previously inserted into a furrow dug in soil to a depth at which the cable is intended to rest. A space separating the cable from the interior surface of the furrow is filled with a stuffing material that has a melting temperature lower than that of the asphalt-based layer. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a device for burying a cable; (b) use of an asphalt-based coating for covering a cable according to the above process; (c) a communication line subjected to the above process; and (d) a telecommunications system including two terminals linked by the above communication line.
