PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating material for a metal package excellent in environment property and safety, and remarkably excellent in flavor sorption, and a metal package coated with a film made from the coating material and excellent in coating characteristics. SOLUTION: This coating material for a metal package excellent in flavor sorption comprises a resin for coating material having a solubility parameter represented by equation (1):δ=äΣ(xi×ΣEj)/Σ(xi×ΣVj)}<SP>1/2</SP>, in the range of 24.6-35 MPa<SP>1/2</SP>, wherein xi represents mole fraction of each monomer unit, Ej represents atomic group cohesive energy density (J/mol), and Vj represents atomic group molar volume (cm<SP>3</SP>/mol).
