METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR IN-BAND SIGNALING BETWEEN NETWORK NODES USING STATE ANNOUNCEMENT OR HEADER FIELD MECHANISMS

A method and system for in-band signaling between network nodes that uses a state announcement mechanism or a header field in a message to signal one of a plurality of possible events. A first network node containing a decompressor defects an event and assigns the detected event a state. The first network node assigns the state an identifier and transmits the identifier in-band to a second network node containing a compressor. The second network node processes the identifier to obtain the event. The first network node receives and de-compresses messages compressed and sent by the second network node. The in-band transmission uses a state announcement mechanism or a header field in a message between the second network node and the first network node to signal events.
