A burner assembly comprises a cylindrical burner chamber 10, housing a burner nozzle 11 and ignition electrodes 12, and which is surrounded by a volute chamber 1 supplied with combustion, air through a tangential duct 2, the exit orifices of the chambers being coaxial, and there being provided within the duct 2 and volute chamber 1 partitions 3 and 4 of different length to define three separate air inlets 7, 8 and 9 equally spaced around the chamber 1, and there being also provided vaned or louvred openings 19 in the burner chamber wall which directs air into the burner chamber in a counter rotational sense to the air supplied to the volute chamber. The end wall 18 of the volute chamber is formed with the exit orifice 17 and has bolted to it a plate 2<SP>1</SP> provided with a depending frusto-conical shield 24 which co-operates with a frusto-conical cap on the burner chamber to define an annular exit 25 from the volute chamber. A cylindrical flame tube 28 bolted to plate 21 and a ring of holes in the flat part of the plate through which combustion air may pass prevents lateral spreading of the flame. A flange around plate 21 allows the assembly to be fixed to a heat exchanger. The burner chamber 10 is mounted on a plate 13 clipped to the base of the volute chamber.
