PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make more uniform contact pressure to an image carrier between arrays of writing heads even when the writing heads are arranged in three arrays in an advancement direction of the image carrier. SOLUTION: Three arrays of the writing heads 3d<SB>1</SB>, 3d<SB>2</SB>and 3d<SB>3</SB>comprising a plurality of write electrodes 3b<SB>1</SB>, 3b<SB>2</SB>and 3b<SB>3</SB>, are arranged respectively at a flexible substrate 3a in the advancement direction of the image carrier 2. At a regular development, an absolute value of a write voltage V<SB>im</SB>of an image part by the writing head 3d<SB>3</SB>of the fixed support side (third array) of the substrate 3a is set to be not larger than an absolute value of the write voltage V<SB>im</SB>of the image part by the other writing heads 3d<SB>1</SB>and 3d<SB>2</SB>(first and second arrays). A difference of butting pressure to the image carrier brought about among the arrays of the writing heads 3d<SB>1</SB>, 3d<SB>2</SB>and 3d<SB>3</SB>is corrected at the image part, and the butting pressure of each array of the writing heads 3d<SB>1</SB>, 3d<SB>2</SB>and 3d<SB>3</SB>is made substantially constant. Accordingly, a contact resistance between the writing head 3d<SB>1</SB>, 3d<SB>2</SB>, 3d<SB>3</SB>and the image carrier 2 becomes uniform, enabling writing of a uniform electrostatic latent image.
