PURPOSE: A field emission display is provided to improve contrast of screen by enlarging an area of emitter without boosting up the driving voltage level. CONSTITUTION: A field emission display comprises a first substrate(2) and a second substrate(4) opposite to each other; a gate electrode(6) formed on the first substrate with a stripe pattern; an insulating layer(8) covering the gate electrode and formed on the first substrate; a cathode electrode(10) formed on the insulating layer with a stripe pattern, a via unit(12) piercing the cathode electrode and the insulating layer at the cross section of the gate electrode and the cathode electrode; an emitter(14) connected electrically to the cathode electrode along the circumference of the via unit and facing the gate electrode; a transparent anode electrode(16) formed on the second substrate; and a phosphor film(18) formed on the anode electrode with a predetermined shape.
