PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing rod whose whole length can be changed between a butt section and an extension section and which can maintain a sufficient fitting force between both the sections. SOLUTION: This fishing rod has the butt section 1 and an extension rod 2 which is connected to the butt side of the butt section 1 in a state capable of being inserted into or withdrawn from the butt section and which can be fixed to the butt section 1 even in any of a received state received in the butt section 1 and an extension state withdrawn from the butt side of the butt section 1. The butt section 1 is wholly tapered, has a diameter-fixed portion X on the inside at a place near to the longitudinally central portion, and has a butt stopper 4 which is a pipe-like member detachably connected to the butt side and inserted into the butt side end portion of the butt section 1 and has a reversely tapered portion on the inner peripheral side. The extension section has an insertion portion 6 on whose tip side end portion outer peripheral side a fitting male portion 6a having a larger diameter than the diameters of the other portions is formed and is inserted into or withdrawn from the butt section 1, and a grip portion 7 connected to the butt side of the insertion portion 6.
