The apparatus is for installation at shooting ranges and has a housing 12 th at has a resilient top layer 24 and a flexible bottom layer 26. The layer 26 extends along an inclined bottom surface 28 and over an upwardly protruding support member 30 to a front side 34. The top layer 24 is attached to the layer 26 at the front side 34 to form a container 25. A non-flowable granula te material 16 is packed in the container 25. The inclined bottom surface 28 is inclined at an angle 20 relative to a horizontal plane 21. The angle 20 is less than an angle of repose 23 of the granulated material 16.
