<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct speed unevenness of a belt to such an extent that a full-color image has neither color slurring nor variation in hue, although the constitution is simple and the cost is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: A sensor 6 reads a scale provided on the external surface of an intermediate transfer belt 10 over the entire circumference, the actual speed of the intermediate transfer belt 10 is detected from detection information, and a controller 70 corrects the speed of the intermediate transfer belt 10 to a target speed according to the actual speed.
