A non-cementitious, non-asphaltic material comprises dried sand or silicates mixed with a water-soluble polymer. The polymer may be a polyvinyl polymer and is preferably polyvinyl acetate or polyvinyl (acetate-versatate) copolymer. The water-soluble polymer may also be selected from styrene maleic anhydride polymer, hydroxymethyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose, 2-butanedioic acid polymer, methoxyethene polymer and styrene-butadiene coppolymer. The composition may also comprise a herbicide and/or fungicide, crystalline sodium silicate, a colourant or dye, or kiln dried sand. A method of stabilising paving blocks using the composition and including the step of applying water to composition surrounding the blocks is also claimed. Further claimed is a composition comprising specified amounts of kiln dried sand, powdered polyvinyl (acetate-versatate) copolymer with kaolin filler and PVA colloid protector, herbicide/fungicide and crystalline sodium silicate. |
