PURPOSE: A method for encoding and decoding an ECC(Error Correction Code) block of a high-density optical disk is provided to record eraser detection code strings within user data blocks, and to declare an eraser, depending on whether an error is generated from the eraser detection code strings, thereby reducing time for decoding and improving a maximum ECC capacity. CONSTITUTION: A system generates user data blocks having a predetermined recording size. The system generates a PO(Parity Outer) for a vertical data string among the user data blocks, and generates a PI(Parity Inner) for a horizontal data string. The system records at least more than one eraser detection code string for separately declaring an eraser on the horizontal data string at certain intervals within the user data blocks. An eraser detection code is pure user data.
