PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the adoption of a small stepping motor, and suppress temperature rise, noise, and increase in cost and further control stepping out of the stepping motor. SOLUTION: When stepping out of the stepping motor 52 is detected, the following operation is performed on a case-by-case basis: if the motor 52 is being accelerated, acceleration is stopped. While the stepping out is detected, the rotational speed is continuously maintained. When the stepping out is not detected any more, the motor 52 is accelerated again until a time later than the acceleration end time in normal speed control. Thus, the rotational speed is maintained, and the reduced transport distance which would not be produced in normal rotation control is recovered. If the motor 52 is not being accelerated, it is decelerated to some degree. While the stepping out is detected, the reduced rotational speed is continuously maintained. When the stepping out is not detected any more, the reduced rotational speed is maintained, and thereby the reduced transport distance which would not be produced in normal rotation control is recovered.
