Method for pre-adjustment of an inking mechanism of a first print machine on the basis of a pre-adjustment characteristic curve (16) derived from pre-adjustment characteristic curves (10, 12) of an inking mechanism of a second print machine, whereby the pre-adjustment characteristic curves are based on print method specific values. The curve is obtained by determining the difference (DELTA) between the two curves of the second print machine and then adding this difference to a pre-adjustment curve (14) of the first print machine. An Independent claim is made for an inking mechanism of a print machine and an associated control unit.
