摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce wavelength dispersion of an arrayed waveguide diffraction grating optical multiplexing and demultiplexing circuit such that an input optical waveguide coupled with an input-side slab waveguide of an AWG is in a parabolic shape. SOLUTION: The arrayed waveguide diffraction grating optical multiplexing and demultiplexing circuit has a structure constituted by connecting a wide waveguide (multi-waveguide) 201 between a slab waveguide and a parabolic waveguide 106. The width D2 of the multi-waveguide 201 is equal to the width D1 of the parabolic waveguide 106 (D<SB>2</SB>=D<SB>1</SB>) or a little narrower than that of the parabolic waveguide (D<SB>2</SB><D<SB>1</SB>). The width of the multi-waveguide is numerically limited by that the maximum width is less than or equal to that of the parabolic waveguide and the minimum width satisfies (the value of the standardized frequency (v) is larger thanπ). The effect that wavelength dispersion becomes zero is obtained by setting the length of the multi-waveguide to an optimum value (the length where the phase difference between a mode of 0th order and a mode of 2nd order at an end becomes zero).
