摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save occupancy space and improve productivity compatibly by simplifying and miniaturizing a component (an image carrier or the like) for performing both-side transfer by feeding paper once and also performing the successive operation of both-side image forming for a plurality of sheets in accordance with a condition allowing efficient operation in an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The peripheral length of a transfer belt: a third image carrier 100 is made equal to a length obtained by adding a paper feeding interval to the maximum size of paper (absolute minimum for both-side image forming operation for the plurality of the sheets), and in the case of obtaining transferred images on both sides of two sheets, each image transferred on one side of the paper by keeping the paper feeding interval is transferred and carried from an intermediate transfer belt: a second image carrier 10. An image for the other side of the paper is formed on the intermediate transfer belt 10 without leaving space by succeeding to image forming on one side, and both-side transfer to the paper (one side from the transfer belt 100 and the other side from the intermediate transfer belt 10) are performed by respective belts 10 and 100 right after finishing transfer to one side of the transfer belt 100 (successive operation). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
