PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a constitution capable of switching the exciting mode of a stepping motor during driving by a simple control system. SOLUTION: A mode switching point provided on the way of an acceleration period and a deceleration period during the driving of the motor is sensed by the reach of the number of steps defined by the number of generating pulse signals from the start of driving the motor at predetermined numbers S1, S4. When the mode switching point is sensed, the exciting mode of the stepping motor is switched between a quarter step and a half step/full step having different stepping angles while the motor is kept driven.
