PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device, method and program capable of realizing a more suitable automatic focusing. SOLUTION: When a user does not designate the position of an AF (automatic focus)frame 261 in a still picture photographing mode, A PDA (personal digital assistance) 1 makes an AF area of a prescribed range centered on a photographing image frame to be a target and performs AF processing. When the user taps an optional position on an EVF area 221 of a touch panel overlapped on the display, the touch panel detects the coordinates of the position, the AF area is arranged so as to be located with the coordinates as a center, and AF processing is carried out with the AF area as a target. At this time, AF processing in capturing a still image is omitted. In addition, when the user taps on the EVF area 221 two times in a prescribed short interval, the PDA 1 returns the AF area to a state in which the user does not designate the position of the AF frame 261.
