PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading system for setting an appropriate reading condition in accordance with an original. SOLUTION: This image reading system consists of an image reading part 1 and a host computer 2 and is operated from the host computer 2 side. The host computer 2 includes a monitor 2A for display and an operation member 2B, and the operation member 2b is provided with a keyboard and a mouse. An original adapter 1A that is freely attachable and detachable is attached to the image reading part 1. The image reading part has a CPU 11, a memory 12, an external interface circuit 13, a LED driving circuit 14, a signal processing circuit 15, an A/D converter 16, a ROM 17, a CCD driving circuit 18, an original driving motor driving circuit 19, an optical block motor driving circuit 20, an optical block motor 21 and an optical block 22.
