AUTOMOBILE HEADLIGHT WITH LATERAL LIGHT SOURCE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automobile headlight capable of obtaining wide beams for illuminating a road shoulder by a simple and effective method. SOLUTION: The headlight is a headlight for automobiles comprising a light source S freely moving in the lateral direction with respect to an light axis Y-Y of a reflecting mirror. The lateral light source S is disposed in the vicinity of an internal focal point Fi of an elliptical reflecting mirror R1. The wall of the reflecting mirror passes through a geometrical axis of the light source S and has a cut out 1 positioned on either side of a plane parallel to the light axis of the reflecting mirror. A lens 2 whose light axis is parallel to or coincident with the light axis of the reflecting mirror is disposed at the forward of the reflecting mirror. Its focal point 3 is positioned in the vicinity of an external focal point Fe. A verticalized reflecting mirror R2 is arranged on the opposite side of the cut out 1 with respect to most of the reflecting mirror R1. This verticalized reflecting mirror R2 is designed to be wide and to generate long range beams free from interruption by the above lens from the light source S emitting shorter range beams.
