PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a spiral type membrane element capable of smoothly performing a later winding process or the like by a stable and sufficient fold while eliminating the "wrinkles" and "breakage" caused by the distortion of a fold part. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method for the spiral type membrane element having a process for forming a laminate S2 wherein a flow channel material on a supply side and a flow channel material on a permeation side are arranged on the supply side of a folded-back membrane 1 and a process for spirally winding at least the laminate S2 around a perforated hollow pipe 5, a bending start part L2 lowered in bending reaction force is formed along the folding-back line L1 of the membrane preliminarily when the membrane 1 is folded back and the membrane 1 is heated and pressed when and/or after the membrane 1 is folded back at the bending start part L2.
