<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid polymer electrolyte having a high proton conductivity sufficient for use for a direct methanol fuel cell, and a practically sufficient alcohol resistance, while easy to manufacture. <P>SOLUTION: The solid polymer electrolyte comprises an aromatic hydrocarbon polymer compound having a crosslinking structure of a sulfonamide group represented by formula 1.
