PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thermosetting aqueous coating agent for cans, which shows a good shelf stability, does not contain formaldehyde which is harmful to human and falls under the PRTR Law and yields a coating film excellent in retort resistance and balance between processibility and hardness, and to provide a metal can coated with the coating agent. SOLUTION: The thermosetting aqueous coating agent for cans comprises an epoxy compound (a) having two or more oxirane rings having specific structures and an aqueous resin (b) which has a functional group reactive with the oxirane rings and is neutralized with a basic compound.
