PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel benzotriazole compound having at least two 2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)phenol structures in one molecule, which is practically marketable, has high-degree heat resistance, transpiration resistance, and the like, is easy to synthesize and exhibits good solubility in a solvent despite its high molecular weight. SOLUTION: The novel benzotriazole compound is represented by formula (1) (wherein X is H or Cl; and Ar is either one of the groups represented by formulae (a)-(d)). The novel benzotriazole compound is specified as either one compound of bis[4-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-3-hydroxyphenyl]arylene dicarboxylate and bis[4-(5-chloro-2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-3-hydroxyphenyl]arylene dicarboxylate represented by formula (1).
