<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for reducing a transmission jitter of NRZ optical data by converting RZ optical data into the NRZ optical data. <P>SOLUTION: A method and an apparatus for converting associated optical data from a first format (RZ) to a second format (NRZ) is obtained by optically stretching an optical pulse. Moreover, a method and an apparatus for enabling the transmission of the low jitter optical data is obtained by optically reducing the jitter of an optical data stream having optical pulses. The apparatus comprises a first principal axis, a second principal axis which is orthogonal to the first axis, a birefringent medium which has a length based on a duration of an optical pulse and is suitable for the propagation of the optical pulse, and an input which is coupled to the birefringent medium and adapted to receive the optical pulse with linear polarization. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
