To separate cables and other longitudinal materials from electrical and electronic waste, and divide them into fractions, the waste which has been reduced to fragments at a shredder (6) is passed to an oscillating separation table (2) with a number of neighboring grooves across its width. The base of each groove has a number of successive passage openings (10,15,16) along its length, each with a different clear width. The ends of the grooves form an ejection edge (19). The passage openings lead to collection shafts (12,16,18,20).
