An apparatus 30 used in a gas turbine engine 10 is provided. The apparatus includes a first radial flange 34, a second radial flange 36 that is axially spaced fro m the first radial flange, and a plurality of circumferentially-spaced beams 38 that extend between the first radial flange and the second radial flange. At least one o f the beams is tapered between the first and second radial flanges.
