The cable reel has a wheel (7) with a peripheral ring (73) for winding up the cable. This has radial ribs (711) around its edge and turns on a pin (51) attached to one half (5) of the casing. A spiral spring (8) connects the pin with the outer edge of the wheel. A spring-loaded push-button (9) mounted in a corner of the casing has a finger (91) which cooperates with the ribs on the wheel.
