SOLUTION: This biphenylenecyclobutenylene polymer shown by formula (3) is manufactured by polymerizing a monomer shown by formula (5) in the presence of a transition metal compound and a reducing agent, in the formulae, A<SP>1</SP>-A<SP>16</SP>, B<SP>1</SP>, and B<SP>2</SP>are each the same or different and shows a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group, etc., m is an integer, and X<SP>3</SP>and X<SP>4</SP>are halogen atoms.
