In the colour photographic processing of photographic materials comprising at least one silver halide emulsion layer and containing colourforming material, the emulsion layer is hardened, subsequent to development, to render it stable to water of at least 140‹ F. The process is particularly for rapid negative and reversal processing. Preferably the emulsion layer is hardened with an aldehyde after it has been black-and-white developed and acidified with a solution (e.g. of acetic acid) containing a small-suppressing agent (e. g. an alkali-metal or NH 4 sulphate), the excess aldehyde is subsequently removed (e.g. with hydroxylamine). |
