<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system and a fuel cell operation method capable of controlling a wet condition of a polymer electrolyte layer by correctly grasping the quantity of moisture present in a fuel cell even in a miniaturized fuel cell. <P>SOLUTION: The temperature, the humidity, the flow rates of an entering gas entering into the fuel cell 2, and of an exhaust gas exhausted from the fuel cell 2 measured to calculate the balance of the moisture quantity to the fuel cell 2; it is compared with the quantity of produced moisture calculated from power supplied by the fuel cell 2 to control the flow rate of a pump 3 for supplying the entering gas to the fuel cell 2; and thus the moisture quantity remaining in the fuel cell 2 is controlled within a level suitable for the polymer electrolyte layer. When the flow rate is controlled by summing up the balance of the moisture quantity and the produced moisture quantity, accumulation of errors is cleared by periodically measuring the wet condition of the polymer electrolyte layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
