PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform optimum autofocus operation regardless of a photographing mode and electronic zoom processing. SOLUTION: When the high frequency component of a video signal outputted from a CCD imaging device (1-2) is extracted by band pass filters (1-13 and 1-14), the band pass filters (1-13 and 1-14) are changed in accordance with the number of pixels of the video signal, whereby the frequency component in an optimum band is extracted even when the spatial sampling frequency (high frequency component) of the video signal is changed.
