A cutter press comprises hydraulic drive means for moving upper and lower platens 11, 12 towards and away from one another, a cutter assembly 13 including a cutting knife 14, or 24, so as to cut a workpiece when the platens are moved together, a gauge member 19, or 29, and a probe 16 engageable with the gauge member when the platens are moved together, the probe being connected by a mechanical linkage 17 to a switch 18 which is thereby actuated to cause the drive means to halt the movement of the platens. Preferably, the gauge member is integral with the cutter assembly. In a modification, the cutter assembly and gauge member are mounted on the platen 11 and the probe mounted on the platen 12.</p> |
