PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of reducing the effect of dirt on an original feeding means upon original image data because of original transparency. SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus 100 is provided with: an ADF 110 equipped with an original feeding belt 111 for feeding an original 101 and an original thickness sensor 113 for detecting the thickness of the original 101; a linear image sensor 108 for reading the image of the original 101 as original image data; and a belt dirt correction circuit 210. The linear image sensor 108 reads belt dirt on the surface of the original feeding belt 111, and the belt dirt correction circuit 210 performs belt dirt correction to the original image data on the basis of the belt dirt and the thickness of the original 101.
